Yet again the volunteers support made this great event happen, it was ninth year at Brand Hall.

Two new National Champions crowned, the Racesafe CCIJ* British Junior Championship Playtime Nzph ridden by Sasha Hargreaves and the Charles Owen British Pony Championship Little Indian Feather ridden by Saffie Osborne, we wish them well at the European Championships. The final International section, The Rookery Park Stud CIC* winner was Ms Independent ridden by Jack Leese. This CIC* section is now firmly on the rider's calendar and is building a good reputation for the up and coming International horse which resulted in a full section.

Sunday we watched many amateur riders in the Blue Chip BE90 having a wonderful time. This group of grassroots competitors showed great determination, they had such fun out on the cross country although some were caught in a freak down pour mid-afternoon. The prize giving was packed with enthusiastic supporters. These classes have opened up many opportunities to join the sport.

Sponsors, Supporters, Volunteers and Emergency Services all rose to the challenge - without them there would be no Horse Trials. Every event is short of volunteers and I know how busy life can be. British Eventing has over 11,000 members if you have never volunteered lift the phone, send an email and start today

It is always a pleasure and a privilege to work with our amazing land owners Mr and Mrs M Taylor. Brand Hall looked magnificent with so many people commenting on what a wonderful job our hosts have done in preserving this small part of old English heritage. Horse Trials are the only time these Estate gates are open and the sport relies on so many, every organiser is finding it tough to keep going - events need your help. I know competitors look at the entry fees and feel they have given enough but the expectations are so great now, in every area we expect excellence. Just take the recent hot weather which resulted in firm ground the team at Brand were out on the course on Friday night with three tractors and equivators. Each tractor did eight hours, the result was amazing with everyone praising the going, what a team but 3 drivers 3 tractors and 3 machines all have to be paid for.

Sponsorship is in short supply, new sponsors are very difficult to attract to the sport and my belief is that we must help our sport from within if we do not wish to have events lost from the calendar act now.

We feel very honoured to have your volunteer support which is much appreciated, every event needs more help - roll on 2018.
